The month of July is “Fair Month” for Right to Life of North Central Indiana. For many years, Right to Life has sponsored a fair booth at the Kosciusko County, Marshall County, and Whitley County Fairs. We appreciate these opportunities to bring the message of life to hundreds of fair-goers who may not otherwise hear it. The booth displays pro-life literature, including our organization’s brochure, as well as the brochures for other pro-life organizations such as Deeper Still of Northern Indiana and Safe Haven Baby Boxes. Also displayed in the booth are lifelike rubber fetal models to give fair-goers of all ages the opportunity to interact with and examine the size, shape, and weight of preborn babies. This year, we are excited to introduce a new layout with some new features, including a kids coloring station, a 3D interactive poster wall displaying dynamic images of fetal development from Answers in Genesis, and Live Action’s Baby Olivia video playing on repeat.
Our presence at these three county fairs would not be possible without the support of volunteers. Many faithful Right to Life supporters volunteer to staff one, or multiple, shifts at a fair booth each year. These volunteers keep the booth materials supplied, interact with fair-goers, and answer questions. One volunteer at the Kosciusko County Fair, Carole Jaroch, has been staffing the booth for many years. When asked what this experience has meant to her, she replied:
“Staffing the Right to Life booth at the fair has given me an opportunity to inform the public that we should help protect all life. We should all do our part to encourage others that all life is precious.”
Carole believes that educating people at the fair booth makes them interested in participating in the pro-life movement, and believes that it has increased the turnout at our annual Legacy of Life banquet.
Tom and Donna Miller are also long-time volunteers at the Kosciusko County Fair. The couple shared that they are “so thankful for the privilege of mingling and sharing with so many folks.” When asked what they feel the impact of the fair booth has been on the community, the couple answered:
“The fair booth brings awareness to our community that we support life. Life is a gift from God. We are created in His image… The fair booth is essential because it reaches folks who are unaware of what we are all about… loving and choosing life! It reaches folks who may not even be aware of what is happening as life is destroyed so freely. It brings a strong awareness and we are so blessed to be a part of sharing that story.”
Many sweet moments are shared between volunteers and fair-goers. Tom and Donna shared one of their favorites that happened just a few days ago.
“A dear mom and her 7 children came to the booth… she is expecting her 8th child in the next weeks. We were able to show the children and the mom pictures of her baby at the number of weeks that she is pregnant. Wow, it was a beautiful object lesson. I wished that there could have been many people around who need to hear this story for the first time.”
Thank you to all who have stopped by one of the fair booths to chat, and thanks to all of our volunteers! If you haven’t made it to a fair yet, the Whitley County Fair runs from July 12-July 16 and the Marshall County Fair runs from July 13-July 19. We’d love to meet you! Right to Life of North Central Indiana eagerly anticipates the opportunities next year’s fairs will bring to continue promoting the dignity and value of all human life across the region! We also look forward to bringing our resources to the Marshall County Blueberry Festival over Labor Day Weekend.
