ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Wesley J. Smith
Wesley J. Smith, Chair and Senior Fellow at Discovery Institute’s Center on Human Exceptionalism, is an internationally recognized expert on physician-assisted suicide and euthanasia who is often called upon by members of the legislative and executive branches of government to advise on issues within his fields of expertise. He has testified as an expert witness before federal and state legislative committees and has counseled government leaders internationally on matters of mutual concern.
Wesley is a lecturer and public speaker, appearing frequently at political, university, medical, legal, disability rights, bioethics, religious, industry, and community gatherings across the United States, Europe, Mexico, Canada, South Africa, Australia, and at the United Nations.
ABOUT THE TRAINING:
Wesley will help attendees understand that assisted suicide isn’t about terminal illness but about eliminating suffering by eliminating the sufferer. And since suffering is subjective, there is no limiting principle on how far that right to be dead will extend. Thus, everywhere it is legalized, eligibility continually expands, and the number of killed increase as hastened death becomes normalized. The final destination of the euthanasia movement is death on demand.
This training will help pastors prepare for coming issues, such as having a person look to their pastor for direction when a relative asks them to attend their assisted suicide in another state where it is legal. Or, a person in your congregation wants assisted suicide. How do you navigate a society that is becoming more concerned with eliminating suffering instead of protecting innocent lives, which can easily morph into eliminating the sufferer?
